Wetang’ula calls for Western Kenya unity
Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula has called for unity devoid of political interference among the people in the region formerly known as Western Province
Wetangula said lack of unity among the political leadership in the Mulembe Nation had negatively affected the area’s development, a trend he said needs to be urgently reversed.
He said there is compelling need for leaders from that part of the country to work together regardless of their political affiliations with a view to registering meaningful development.
“As Speaker (of the National Assembly), I have insisted to lawmakers from the region that they need to put politics a side and work together in order to bring development to our people. That is very important. I can report that we are on the right trajectory,” he stated.
Wetangula spoke on Saturday during the launch of the Malava Professionals Forum at a Nairobi hotel where he was the Chief Guest.
Malava MP Malulu Injendi hosted the event also attended by SEKU vice-chancellor Prof Douglas Shitanda, Chief of Staff in the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary Joe Ngaira Busiega, Secretary for State Corporations in the Office of the President Indumuli Muyumba, educationist Pamela Benchi Mukabana and a former Director of Kenya Film and Classification Baord Alfred Khasavili, now an adviser to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.
Wetangula observed that development can only be fostered in an environment of peace and tranquility, the reason why unity of the political leadership in Western Kenya is paramount.
The National Assembly Speaker observed that it was only through unity that the region can get the opportunity to fight for higher positions of leadership in the country, saying that he is ready to take that mantle if he gets the support of the residents of the region.
