Wetangula backs Harambee Stars ahead of crucial Angola clash
By Joel Masibo, August 7, 2025National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has rallied support behind the national team Harambee Stars ahead of their crucial 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Group A outing. Kenya will face Angola on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, starting at 7 pm local time.
Taking to his official X account on Thursday, August 7, 2025, Wetangula urged the team to maintain their winning momentum and fly the national flag even higher.
Following their spirited 1-0 victory over DR Congo last Sunday at the same venue, Wetangula praised the national side for their resilience, highlighting the significance of the win, which was witnessed by President William Ruto and other top political leaders at the stadium during the team’s CHAN debut.
Wetangula sends message to Harambee Stars
”Congratulations Harambee Stars, you did a sterling job and made us proud in the presence of our Head of State and all Kenyan leaders. I am armed with my jersey ready, do us proud again on Thursday,” Wetangula said.
However, the clash against Angola is expected to be a tough test, with the Southern African side known for their physicality and pace. Angola will be heading into the encounter seeking to bounce back after a shaky start to the tournament courtesy of a 2-o defeat to two-time champions Morocco last Sunday.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s encounter, Kenya’s head coach Benni McCarthy has urged the players to stay focused and build on the positives from the previous game, while advising them not to be carried away with the opening match victory.

Placed second in Group A tied on three points with leaders Morocco, who enjoy a healthy goal difference, Kenya is four points away from booking their quarter-finals berth at the 2024 African Nations Championship.
With the tournament providing a platform for local players to showcase their abilities to a continental audience, stakeholders believe that consistent performance at CHAN could open doors for more Kenyan players to be scouted by international clubs.
After pushing the team to victory on Sunday, Harambee Stars fans hope for another memorable display that will inspire the nation past Angola on Thursday evening.
