We will eradicate corruption at Port of Mombasa, says State House boss
By Reuben.Mwambingu, July 7, 2023State House Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has promised to continue the purge against corrupt elements in government.
Speaking after meeting Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) staff at the Port of Mombasa yesterday, Koskei cautioned the masterminds of corruption at the Authority to brace for the “new broom sweeping clean”.
Koskei said a team of officers including from the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission had been dispatched to lead the purge.
“Desist from corrupt practices. That was the message I brought here today and I know you knew that I was coming with that one. I understand you have been following me. I know you saw me while I was in Kemsa, when I was in Kebs and some of you have been at the meeting in Nairobi. We have now taken corruption head-on,” the Public service boss told KPA staff.
He said the Kenya Kwanza administration led by President William Ruto has decided that corruption must be decisively dealt with to remove the bad image it has created for Kenya and at the same time halt the litany of frustrations clogging the country’s development.
“Corruption has damaged the country’s reputation to the rest of the world to an extent that when you go abroad, instead of people asking you how Kenya is, they ask how corruption in Kenya is. So I don’t want KPA to reach that level. Let’s turn it around.
I want all of us to be part of that team that will slay this corruption, that will fight this corruption, that will report whoever will be engaging in corrupt dealings so that we may boost efficiency and revenue at the Port of Mombasa,” he said.
