Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has reinstated County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Finance Catherine Mutanu after the court suspended the implementation of her decision to dismiss the county official.

In a statement issued her X account on Monday, July 13, 2026, Wavinya said she had been served with a court order halting the dismissal and would fully comply with the directive as the matter proceeds through the judicial process.

“This morning, I was served with a court order suspending the implementation of my decision to dismiss Hon. Catherine Mutanu as the CECM for Finance,” Wavinya said.

Governor bows to court order

The governor said respect for the rule of law guided her decision to reinstate Mutanu pending the hearing and determination of the case.

“As a law-abiding citizen, I respect the rule of law and will fully comply with the court order as the matter proceeds through the judicial process,” she stated.

Wavinya consequently directed Mutanu to immediately resume her duties at the county treasury.

“I have therefore directed Catherine Mutanu to resume her duties as CECM for Finance with immediate effect pending the hearing and determination of the case,” she said.

The governor also wished the county executive success as she resumed office.

“I wish Hon. Catherine Mutanu all the best as she discharges her duties,” Wavinya added.

Finance docket dispute heads to court

The reinstatement temporarily restores Mutanu to one of the county’s key executive positions as the legal dispute over her dismissal moves to court.

The ruling means the status quo will remain until the court hears and determines the matter, with both parties expected to present their arguments during the proceedings.

Governor remains active on county agenda

The latest development comes days after Wavinya pledged support to traders affected by the devastating Machakos Mitumba Market fire.

The governor assured victims that her administration would stand with them during recovery efforts, called for investigations into the cause of the blaze and reaffirmed plans to improve market infrastructure by developing safer and more modern trading facilities to protect businesses from future disaster
