Waruguru condemns attack on DCP leaders and re-emergence of goons
Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has strongly condemned the violent attacks on Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leaders on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Ngonda Shopping Centre in Murang’a County.
In a statement posted on her official social media account, Waruguru strongly condemned what she termed a blatant act of intimidation, adding that such lawlessness and political thuggery had no place in the country and that democracy must be defended.
“Goons, under police protection, block roads in Murang’a and attacked DCP leaders. We strongly condemn this blatant act of intimidation. Such lawlessness and political thuggery have no place in our country. Democracy must be defended,” Waruguru condemned.
In addition, Waruguru said it was shameful and unacceptable, adding that political intimidation would not silence the will of the people. She urged Kenyans to stand strong against injustice.

DCP leaders’ attack
The confrontation occurred shortly after Nyandarua Senator John Methu and other Gachagua allies attended a service at AIPCA Christ the King Church in Kigumo. The leaders were scheduled to address several public rallies, but police blocked their convoy. The situation escalated when teargas canisters were fired, forcing Senator Methu and others to flee on foot.
Photos taken after the incident show a damaged vehicle from Methu’s convoy, hit during the chaos. Unconfirmed reports also suggested that hired goons may have been involved in the attacks, further raising tension.
Following the incident, DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua issued a strongly worded statement on social media calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the police officers and individuals involved.

He labelled the event “barbaric, dictatorial, and violent against the very soul of our nation.”
“I have learnt of the unfortunate event at Ngonda Shopping Centre, in Murang’a where state-sponsored militia accompanied by rogue police officers under instructions of Mr. William Ruto and CS for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen have violently beaten wananchi and leaders after church service,” Gachagua wrote on his X account.
“How do you go to church, reconcile your conscience at the Holy Altar, while you instruct your police and goons to kill Kenyans in the same neighbourhood?”
