Wanyonyi reiterates he is best-placed for Nairobi post

Westlands MP  Tim Wanyonyi yesterday reiterated his intention to run for the governorship of Nairobi in next year’s General-Election.

Wanyonyi said he had already laid out his campaign strategies as part of the preparations to contest for the seat on the banner of his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and will make a formal announcement next month.

“I shall declare my candidature in early November. It is all systems go now and I am sure to clinch the governorship if my party gives me the nod. As you know, ODM is still the party to beat in Nairobi and countrywide,” Wanyonyi said.

The two-term legislator was addressing a public rally at Ongata Rongai’s Rhumba Spot where he had met hundreds of residents drawn from the Western part of Kenya on a voter mobilisation exercise.

He told the audience to turn out and register as voters in large numbers before the exercise comes to an end on November 4, arguing that a voter’s card is the only powerful weapon the citizenry has to determine the type of leadership they desire right from ward to presidential levels. 

The lawmaker dismissed claims that he was contemplating dropping out of the race due to massive pressure exerted by external political matrix in favour someone else.

Outgoing Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi is the only one known to have declared interest in the parliamentary seat presently occupied by Wanyonyi.
