Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has held a planning meeting with church leaders ahead of President William Ruto’s visit to the region.

In a post on her official X account on Friday, March 20, 2026, Wanga confirmed that Ruto will preside over an interdenominational service in Homa Bay.

“In preparation for the Homa Bay County Interdenominational Service, to be graced by the Head of State, H.E. Dr William Ruto, we held a productive planning meeting this morning with the leadership of the County Inter-Faith Council,” Wanga said.

According to the Homa Bay County boss, the service is scheduled for this Sunday, 22nd March 2026, at Agoro Sare High School, Kasipul Constituency.

Ruto’s 4-day Nyanza tour

This comes as President William Ruto is set to kick off his 4-day development tour of the Nyanza region on Friday, March 20, to commission numerous development projects across the four counties of Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya.

The Head of State will also host elected leaders from Nyanza at the Kisumu State Lodge, where sources privy to the meeting say they’ll engage in discussions over ongoing projects and those in the pipeline.

Confirming the President’s visit, Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa noted that all security arrangements had been finalised to host the Head of State.

Mworoa has urged politicians and residents to maintain peace and decorum during the upcoming visit by President William Ruto to the Nyanza region.

Security measures

She has announced that security agencies have put measures in place to ensure that all presidential meetings and public engagements proceed smoothly without disruptions.

Mworoa further expressed concern over past incidents where some politicians allegedly mobilised youths who engaged in shouting matches during other leaders’ speeches, disrupting official functions.

She urged politicians to sensitise their supporters on the need to respect leaders who will address the gatherings.

“It’s therefore my call to all our politicians to speak to their supporters to make sure that those who have an opportunity to attend these meetings respect all leaders who will be able to speak or who will be attending the functions,” she said.

Mworoa noted that the regional security committee has taken note of such incidents and has strengthened security arrangements to prevent similar occurrences during the President’s visit.

The regional commissioner also warned against the use of abusive language or carrying weapons to the meetings, saying security officers will not hesitate to take action against those who violate the law.

“We do not expect any usage of bad language or carrying of weapons because in the past we have seen a few people coming to these meetings with weapons,” Mworoa said.
