Wamuchomba to Kiambu governor: Lives are being lost under your watch
By Mabonga Makhanu, August 13, 2025Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has vowed not to relent in calling out Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi over his failure to address critical issues affecting the county.
In a statement posted on her social media pages on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Wamuchomba said she has repeatedly resisted joining those opposed to Governor Wamatangi’s style of leadership, choosing instead to give him time to deliver.
However, she noted that the continued loss of lives and the negative impact on livelihoods in Kiambu can no longer be tolerated.

“I have resisted several times joining those opposed to Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s way of leadership in Kiambu County. I am a believer of giving people chances to do their best, but we can’t persevere as we continue to lose lives and affect livelihoods in our county, Kiambu,” Wamuchomba noted.
She recalled an incident a few months ago where a baby died in the arms of a parent within the premises of Igegania Hospital while waiting for medical attention, only for the governor to defend himself by blaming an ongoing doctors’ strike, an explanation she described as unacceptable.
A few days later, the governor claimed he had resolved the contentious issues, but Wamuchomba pointed out that the situation had persisted. She cited the latest case involving the death of one of her constituents at Githunguri Level 4 Hospital, where no doctor or nurse was available at the time.

She criticised the governor for engaging in public relations instead of delivering services, noting that during a function in Limuru on Sunday, in the presence of the President, Wamatangi falsely claimed to have completed the construction of Githunguri Level 5 Hospital. Wamuchomba described this as evidence of incompetence and dishonesty, linking it to his recent arrest over corruption allegations.
According to the MP, Wamatangi should be regarded as a leader more interested in amassing wealth than providing services. She announced that she will now work with others demanding accountability and better service delivery in Kiambu, stressing the urgent need for more doctors, adequate medical supplies, and prompt healthcare services.

“Wamatangi should henceforth be treated as a joker, out to amass wealth in the behest of service delivery. Enough is enough; I will henceforth join forces with those pressing for accountability and service delivery in Kiambu County. We need doctors, sufficient drugs and prompt health services,” she added.
