Wamuchomba calls for Murkomen’s resignation over priest’s murder

Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has called for the resignation of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen following the recent murder of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, Diocese of Eldoret.
Taking to her official X account on the night of Friday, May 23, 2025, Wamuchomba called out Murkomen and his health counterpart Aden Duale for harshly condemning former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime for misses in keeping peace in the bandit-prone areas and failure to manage doctors and healthcare workers, a task she says they have also failed at as they now enjoy power.
While terming the killing of Fr Allois as heartbreaking, Wamuchomba argued that Murkomen should just resign, as he had failed to protect life.
“Both Cs Duale and Murkomen harshly condemned the former regime for misses in keeping peace in the bandit-prone areas and failure to manage doctors and healthcare workers. Today they are the ministers in charge of the same dockets facing the same problems. @kipmurkomen, the killing of the Catholic father by bandits is heartbreaking. Murkomen should just resign and join the NOISE makers. He performed better there. Duale should keep quiet and only speak when healthcare workers are properly employed and remunerated. Otherwise, the 1 T spirit is in the air,” Wamuchomba stated.

Ruto’s pledge
Wamuchomba’s statement comes hours after President William Ruto assured the Kerio Valley residents that security agencies would track down those who orchestrated and those who pulled the trigger on the priest.
He further pledged to help ensure peace is restored in Kerio Valley.
“We will hunt down his killers as we commit to restore peace in the Kerio Valley,” Ruto said in his statement shared on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Persons of interest arrested
Following the killing of the priest, the National Police Service deployed security reinforcements in the area to track down the perpetrators.
The multi-agency operation led to the arrest of six persons of interest.
“A manhunt was immediately launched, and six suspects have since been arrested and are currently in custody,” he explained.
At the same time. NPS condemned the heinous act, committing to conducting thorough and expeditious investigations to apprehend all those involved in the crime.
“The Service extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, as well as the parishioners of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish,” NPS said as it appealed for calm.
