Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked elected leaders and well-wishers to help the government fight the spread of coronavirus, which has so far claimed 14 lives.
Wamatangi said any help, especially to the most venerable in the society, would play a key role in taming the spread of the virus, even as he asked regional governments to prudently use the available resources in the fight.
The senator also warned county bosses against embezzling funds, which they have set aside to fight the pandemic.
Wamatangi (below), a member of the Senate Public Accounts Committee, said an audit will be carried out and whoever will have used the unfortunate crisis to enrich themselves will be punished.
Defeat virus
“We as leaders and people of goodwill should try and assist the government in taming the spread of the virus so that we can defeat it as fast as possible,”he said.
The senator has in the past three weeks, through his Wamatangi Foundation, been spraying public places across the county, mostly trading centres and open-air markets and also ferrying water to informal settlements.
“Let us complement the government so that we can alleviate the situation even as we continue to urge Kenyans to adhere to the government directives,” he said.
