Governor Wamatangi claims his life is in danger

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has vowed not to be cowed by corruption cartels that he says have threatened him on various occasions.

The Governor claimed he has received threats from people he has blocked from enriching themselves using county resources including some of his county employees.

“Since I took over, I dismantled cartels within the county who have been enriching themselves with taxpayers’ money. Now they have resorted to threats, but I am not going to budge,” the governor stated.

He pointed an accusing finger at some greedy county employees who he claimed were colluding with some outsiders to plunder county resources.

“You find people who are earning between Ksh150,000 and Ksh250,000 per month and still want to loot funds from the county. These are the things I have vowed to stamp out,” he added.

Addressing congregants during a Sunday service at PCEA Ndarugu church in Gatundu South constituency, he said as a result of his move to seal loopholes through which money was being lost, for the first time in six years the county does not owe its workers any money.

“They are saying that if I survive their plot on my life, I may end up in court but I will not be shaken by anyone and will continue to safeguard the welfare of the Kiambu people,” Wamatangi stated.

He vowed to streamline operations and ensure the huge Ksh7 billion debt he inherited is cleared and that there are funds to finance development activities.

At the same time, Wamatangi said his government has moved to contain the cholera outbreak which has so far claimed at least three lives in the county.

He attributed the spread of the disease to shortages of water in some areas like Gatuanyaga in Thika East sub-county and some public occasions in which people hire catering services from Nairobi where the food served is contaminated.

The governor said there are plans to increase the supply of water in Thika, Juja, Ruiru and other areas in order to mitigate the shortages and help check the spread of cholera.
