Wamalwa wants State to review school fees increment
Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa has urged the government to urgently intervene and stop fee hike ahead of schools reopening next week.
Speaking in Yuya farm in Cherangany Sub-county on Tuesday, Wamalwa said the move to increase fee would disadvantage many learners from accessing education.
The MP said most learners from humble backgrounds have had hard times in accessing education due to many struggles in families and asked for interventional matters.
“The Government should put more focus on making learning cheaper. This is because the cost of running and managing learning institutions is going to be more high in 2021 and this is where I’m asking His Excellency the President to intervene,” he said.
He urged both state departments of education and the National Treasury to work together in putting up urgent measures and release more funds to schools to fit the interests of learners.
A section of Trans Nzoia residents led by Cleophas Barasa backed up the MPs sentiments, saying the best way forward was for the government to increase more bursary allocations to carter for the deficit.
