Former Roots Party Presidential running mate Justina Wamae has cast doubts on how the recovery of ill-got public resources can help spur economic growth in the country.

Taking to X on Monday, September 15, 2025, Wamae hinted at a little significance in economic development, even after arresting and recovering the proceeds of corruption from corrupt duty bearers. She instead called for a different approach to spur the country economically.

”If we have arrested the corrupt duty bearers, sh$t them (as you always insist) and even confiscated their ill-got wealth. Explain how this will spur economic growth? Be pragmatic,” Wamae said.

Wamae’s sentiments come at the moment when former Bungoma County Governor Wyclife Wangamati and Bomet County Governor Hillary Barchok appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to answer charges in relation to graft in August.

In a presser signed by the commission’s CEO, Abdi Mahmoud, on Friday, August 29, 2025, the commission had directed the pair to appear before its office on Monday, September 1, 2025.

However, moments after learning his implication in corruption dealings, Wangamati declined the charges levelled against him. In a statement released on Friday, August 29, 2025, the former Bungoma County boss described the graft allegations mentioned against him as “politically motivated”.

Wangamati claimed the charges were part of a wider smear campaign designed to tarnish his reputation and derail his political ambitions.
He argued that the prosecution recommendation by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was nothing more than “a political pamphlet dressed up as prosecution.”

“For the record: these allegations are politically motivated and contrived from quarters well known to the people of Bungoma. They are as malicious as they are frivolous; irredeemably defective, irredeemably bogus, and devoid of any factual or legal merit. In fact, I daresay that what we are all reading today is a political pamphlet dressed up as prosecution, one whose singular aim is to run a smear campaign against my person, my candidature, and my credentials as a visionary leader, while clearing a path for a family political heir—a Project and an import from Nairobi,” Wangamati said.

Meanwhile, Wamae’s argument comes at the moment when the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, arrested David Geoffrey Ombiro, an Administrative Officer at the Kisii County Assembly, over allegations of using forged documents to secure employment.

EACC investigations established that Mr. Ombiro altered his birth certificate, changing his year of birth from 1967 to 1973, and used the falsified certificate to procure a National Identity Card reflecting the amended details.

In a statement, EACC said; ”He is also accused of forging a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Personal Identification Number, a National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) card, and a National Social Security Fund (NSSF) card to match the falsified identity, which he subsequently submitted to the Kisii County Assembly as part of his employment records,” EACC said.
