Waiguru condemns Mutahi Kahiga for celebrating Raila’s death

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has condemned her Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga for celebrating Raila Odinga’s death.

In a post on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Kahiga termed the remarks by Kahiga as unfortunate, callous, and irresponsible.

Waiguru stated that Kahiga’s remarks do not reflect the views of the leadership or the people of Mt Kenya.

“The remarks made today by my colleague, Nyeri Governor Kahiga, are not just unfortunate; they are callous and irresponsible. They do not reflect the views of the leadership or the people of Mt Kenya. Let us be clear: politics does not oust basic decency. For the record, as a people, we stand with the rest of Kenya in mourning a great statesman, Raila Odinga, CGH,” Waiguru stated.

Kahiga’s remarks

Speaking in his native Kikuyu language on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, during a burial ceremony in Nyeri, Kahiga said the Mt Kenya region had no hatred toward anyone but suggested that Raila’s death was part of divine intervention.

“You guys can see, you can see what had been planned, but God brought something up. Now it’s total confusion. Everybody can see that. We did not harbour hate for anyone, but God came through for us,” said Kahiga.

He went on to claim that the late ODM Party Leader’s close ties with President William Ruto had shifted the government’s focus toward the Nyanza region, leaving others sidelined.

“For you who do not travel, because I was in that region, all goodies were being directed there because of tomorrow’s plans, because it seemed like they did away with us, but God came and brought this thing,” he added.

The governor also appeared to take a subtle swipe at the President, saying that divine power had “levelled the playing field” in Kenya’s political space.

“So now people have been told to go back to the drawing board because the plan that was there was probably to throw us out. But who is God? Does he take ugali at somebody’s house or sleep in Kayole?

“He came through in His own way. He saw up there that people in heaven are disagreeing a lot and came for Baba so that he can go and smooth things up there,” Kahiga said.
