A family in Vihiga is left in shock after a daughter stabbed her father to death in an unprovoked attack.

The person of interest, who is around 42 years old, is said to have stabbed her father in Mudanya on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, before escaping from the scene.

According to the mother, there was no difference between the father and the daughter.

She said the old man left the house to go attend to his cow in their compound.

A grief-stricken mother said she was shocked when her grandson came running towards her, saying the person of interest had killed his grandfather.

The panicking woman said she rushed to the scene only to find her husband dead in a pool of blood.

“I am shocked and unable to tell why my daughter decided to kill her father by stabbing him in an unprovoked attack. We stayed the whole day without any conflict,” the mother sobbed.

“After killing her father, my daughter ran away. I only saw her holding her skirt tightly, running away,” she said.

Isava North chief Evans Endesa confirmed the incident, terming it quite unfortunate.

The chief said they are hunting the killer’s daughter so that she can be taken for a mental check-up.

“We have an incident that has happened in my area where a daughter stabbed to death her father, Hesbon Mudanya, in an unprovoked attack. We are pursuing the lady so that we can interrogate her to give reasons why she decided to kill her father,” the chief said.

This incident comes a few days after a man stabbed his assistant chief together with two villagers several times in an unprovoked attack in Sabatia sub-county.

The incident happened in Muharia village in Sabatia sub-county, Vihiga County, after an assistant chief was attacked by a villager who went berserk.

The person of interest also injured the other three people by stabbing them with a knife in an unprovoked attack.

The assistant chief of the Kigama sub-location, Moses Marani, was rushed to Kaimosi Jumuia hospital after he sustained serious injuries during the attack. The incident was confirmed by North Maragoli location chief Kennedy Ndagala.

The attack

Chief Ndagala said the assistant chief was attacked by a man suspected of being mentally disturbed who struck him several times on the head and hands, inflicting serious injuries on his body.

“We have an incident that happened at Muharia village in Kigama sub-location, where a man went berserk and stabbed an assistant chief and three other villagers with a knife. The administrator was taken to Kaimosi Hospital, while the other three were rushed to Vihiga Referral Hospital. The man is suspected to be mentally ill,” Chief Ndagala said.

The assailant was arrested by police officers who responded immediately to save the situation.

He said police have already launched investigations and are holding the suspect for interrogation.
