Zetech University and Partners for Care, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that champions for the wellness of children in Kenya have renewed and expanded the scope of their partnership after three years of successful and mutually beneficial collaborations.
Under the previous pact, both parties engaged in activities such as Youth Mentorship and Training, Career talks and mentorship, Joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSP) Programs, and Sponsoring needy students through bursaries.
The previous collaboration saw Zetech University, Tharaka Nithi County and PFC empower the youth, women and People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in Tharaka Nithi County through the provision of mobility carts and eco-friendly water backpacks.
Zetech University also initiated a program where the PLWDs would be trained on book-keeping skills to help them in conducting small-scale retail businesses such as hawking.
Zetech University, in conjunction with PFC, conducted a series of youth mentorship and career fairs, high school visits, hosting of high school students for campus experience tours and outreach programs in various schools in the Country. These programs provide guidance and mentorship among the youth and help them chart out a future they can be proud of.
In addition to Zetech University’s Sports Scholarship program that finances the education of students who excel in sports but have challenges in fees payment, the two parties are working on an endowment fund that will see students from disadvantaged backgrounds have their tertiary education financed fully at Zetech University.
In addition to the existing areas of engagement, Zetech University and PFC will engage in Joint Research Activities, Prisoners’ Digital Literacy, Internship opportunities for Students and any other projects the two parties may agree to pursue jointly under the renewed and expanded Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU).
Speaking after exploring the areas of engagement, Zetech Vice-Chancellor Prof. Njenga Munene appreciated the input from PFC to see the previous pact attain and exceed the objectives.
“I would like to appreciate Partners for Care led by the Executive Director Sammy Wanjau for their commitment and dedication that has seen us execute various impactful projects. The expansion of the scope of this MoU is a sign that we can impact many more together. I look forward to providing solutions to the societal challenges such as unemployment, knowledge-creation and impacting the lives of inmates through Digital Literacy,” said Prof. Munene.
On his part, the Executive Director, Partners for Care Sammy Wanjau noted the ease with which working with Zetech has been, adding that other Universities should do away with bureaucracies to increase the success rates of projects and partnerships.
“If there is one thing that stands out about Zetech, it is the seamlessness of inking a partnership and making sure it brings out results. MoUs are not just meant to be signed and shelved in drawers; they should be accompanied by input and efforts to achieve the objectives. I appreciate Zetech, under the leadership of Prof. Munene for ensuring that we continue touching the lives of Kenyans”.
