United Opposition leaders among delegation visiting Bondo to honour Raila
By Kenneth Mwenda, November 6, 2025Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that a delegation of United Opposition leaders, professionals, and elders from Ukambani will visit Bondo to mourn the late Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday, November 6, 2025, before departing for Bondo, Kalonzo said the visit represents the entire opposition fraternity and Raila’s close friends.
He clarified that the group includes clan elders, bishops, and former MPs who have come together to show solidarity with the Odinga family.
“Hapa tuko na clan elders wa Ukambani,” Kalonzo said. “We have the council of elders, professionals from Kamba, bishops, etc. And then of course the Members of Parliament, the former MPs like Mhe. Ezekiel Mweu, Mhe. Patrice Ivuti, Mhe. Ndotto. People of Kisumu, people of Siaya have really welcomed us. I spoke to Governor James Orengo – I think they are all waiting, supporting Mama Ida.”
Kalonzo said the visit is not political but a traditional and symbolic gesture of friendship and respect.
“We will also be driving animals – ile ngombe imekuja itapelekwa kwa mguu. Tukifika huko, inatungojea mahali,” he said, adding that the delegation’s gifts will be delivered to the Odinga homestead as part of their cultural way of mourning.

He added that several key figures are already on the ground in Bondo to coordinate the visit.
“We have our Secretary General Shakila Abdalla there, we have also Fay. It’s literally friends of Raila who are here, including Wakili Njiru, Sicily Kariuki, and Mukuji, MP for Manyatta,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo emphasised that the United Opposition fully supports the visit, describing it as a collective show of unity and love for Raila.
“Only clarification – United Opposition knows we are here to represent them. But I think Riggy G and others will also look for time to come and mourn our late brother. We are all united,” he said.
Kalonzo added that the Odinga family had formally allowed friends and political allies to visit following Raila’s quick burial last month.
United Opposition Youth Leader Ken Babu had earlier confirmed that Gachagua planned to lead a separate visit to Bondo to pay his respects. He dismissed claims that the Odinga family had barred anyone from visiting, saying they had made it clear that all Kenyans were welcome to mourn.
“Raila Jr. said they have no issue with anyone,” Babu said in an earlier interview. “No one has been stopped from visiting. The family understands who Raila was to this country.”
Raila’s grave at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo has in recent weeks attracted many national leaders, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Chief Justice Martha Koome, and Governors Johnson Sakaja and James Orengo.
