Uhuru lands in Uganda ahead of Museveni’s swearing-in

President Uhuru Kenyatta has arrived in Kampala, Uganda for the swearing-in ceremony of Uganda’s President-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The President landed in Uganda’s capital Wednesday morning accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries Raychelle Omamo (Foreign Affairs), Peter Munya (Agriculture) and James Macharia (Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development).
Museveni is expected to be sworn in for his sixth term after winning 59 per cent of the vote cast in January 14, 2021 presidential election.
His main challenger Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, won 35 per cent of the vote and went to court to challenge the election outcome.
Bobi Wine, a former pop star, vowed to provide evidence of vote-rigging when internet connections were restored.
The government shut down the internet ahead of voting day, a move condemned by election monitors.
They said confidence in the count had been damaged by the days-long cut.
However, on March 8 Bobi Wine asked Uganda’s Supreme Court to withdraw his petition challenging the presidential results.
“We went to court to get two things; either to get justice or to expose the judiciary. But even before we could expose them, the judiciary decided to expose itself,” Bobi Wine said.
