Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper Patriotic Front Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, have toured the historic Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria, in their visit to the West African nation.

The particular library is a world-class complex established by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo to preserve Africa’s political, cultural, and historical legacy. The facility, which houses an extensive collection of documents, artefacts, and exhibits chronicling Nigeria’s journey since independence, also serves as a research and leadership development centre aimed at inspiring future generations across the continent.

The OOPL tour

During his visit, according to the statement shared via X by the Office of the 4th President of Kenya on Saturday, January 3, 2026, Uhuru Kenyatta undertook an extensive tour of the library, where he was shown various exhibitions detailing Nigeria’s democratic evolution, regional peace efforts, and President Obasanjo’s continental contributions to governance and leadership.

The former Kenyan Head of State also viewed collections highlighting Africa’s role in global diplomacy and sustainable development. The visit came shortly after Kenyatta delivered a keynote address at the 2025 Future Africa Leaders Awards in Lagos, where he hailed Africa’s youth as the continent’s greatest asset and emphasised the importance of leadership grounded in integrity, service, and vision.

Mentoring the youth

Speaking during the awards ceremony at the Loveworld Nation Arena in Lagos, Nigeria, on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, Kenyatta stated that Africa’s true wealth lies not underground but in the minds and hearts of its people. “We have been told of the great wealth beneath Africa’s soil, but our greatest resource is within the minds and hearts of our young people. You are not leaders of tomorrow; you are leaders of today who are shaping tomorrow,” he said.

He commended the award recipients for their service and innovation, noting that their efforts exemplify the continent’s growing leadership potential. “Each of these young men and women chose service over self, community over comfort, and vision over fear. We honour not just what they have done, but who they have become.”

Both Uhuru Kenyatta and Kalonzo Musyoka held an interactive session with winners and alumni of the Future Africa Leaders Awards at Omnia Towers in Lagos, Nigeria, where the two leaders encouraged young Africans to embrace purpose, resilience, and faith in their leadership journeys.
