UDA sweeps May 14 by-elections as David Keter clinches Emurua Dikirr seat

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Kipsang Keter has been declared the winner of the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election after garnering 18,266 votes in the highly contested May 14, by-elections.

Caleb Gekonde, the IEBC Returning Officer for Member of National Assembly for Emurua Dikirr Constituency in Narok County, declared Keter the winner after defeating Democratic Congress Party (DCP) candidate Vincent Kibet Rotich, who garnered 10,760 votes.

National Vision Party (NVP) candidate Gideon Koech came third with 190 votes, while Cherono Desma of the Party of National Unity (PNU) secured 80 votes. Reform Liberation Party (RLP) candidate Kiprono Rotich trailed with 62 votes.

According to IEBC, 29,538 votes were cast out of 44,353 registered voters, translating to a voter turnout of 66.6 per cent.

Out of the 44,353 registered voters, 29,538 votes were cast giving a voter turnout of 66.6 per cent,” IEBC stated on a statement on May 5, 2026.

Why the by-election

The seat fell vacant following the death of former MP Johana Ngeno, who perished in a helicopter crash at Chepkiep village, Mosop Sub-county in Nandi County on February 28, alongside five other people.

Keter, a three-time opponent of former Member of Parliament (MP) Johana Ng’eno, had earlier won the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) parliamentary party ticket after gaining 13,759 votes against Bernard Kipkoech Ng’eno, the former MP’s personal assistant, who got 13,394 votes in a hotly contested poll in a constituency that is a political hotbed.

Endo and Porro ward victory

Meanwhile, UDA also clinched victory in the Endo Ward County Assembly Ward by-election in Elgeyo Marakwet County.Dominic Leparmarai, the Returning Officer for Endo Ward CAW, declared Festus Korir Kiprop of UDA Party the winner after securing 4,475 votes against Shadrack Kosgei Chelang’a of the NDP party, who garnered 752 votes.

IEBC said 5,260 votes were cast out of 14,361 registered voters in Endo Ward, representing a voter turnout of 36.59 per cent.In Samburu County’s Porro Ward by-election, UDA candidate Daniel Lolngojine also emerged victorious after polling 2,328 votes.

Sophina Leleruk, the Returning Officer for Porro Ward CAW, announced that Josphat Jumani Leleur of KANU finished second with 1,036 votes.

A total of 4,194 votes were cast out of 6,358 registered voters in Porro Ward, giving a voter turnout of 65.96 per cent.
