UDA reveal details of meeting with Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has pledged to support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in establishing a leadership institute during a high-level meeting with the party’s delegation at State House, Kampala.

In a statement posted on their X account on February 8, 2025, UDA announced that the meeting focused on strengthening ties between UDA and Uganda’s National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“The UDA Party delegation visiting Uganda was hosted by President Yoweri Museveni, who emphasized the need for greater partnership between UDA and the National Resistance Movement (NRM),” UDA said.

The delegation was led by UDA National Chairperson Governor Cecily Mbarire and included key officials such as Secretary General Hassan Omar, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, and Party National Treasurer Japheth Nyakundi.

During the talks, Museveni emphasized the importance of Pan-Africanism and the need for enhanced political cooperation among East African nations to ensure Africa’s prosperity.

“The Uganda President hailed the collaboration between the two parties, emphasizing the need to promote Pan-Africanism to ensure the prosperity of Africa,” UDA stated in its official communication.

Museveni also committed to providing technical support through the NRM’s Leadership Institute to assist with the establishment of a similar institution in Kenya.

“As UDA plans on setting up a leadership institute, President Museveni said his party will be willing to provide technical support through NRM Leadership Institute to help in putting up the institution in Kenya,” UDA announced.

The Ugandan leader also highlighted the historical ties between Kenya and Uganda, stressing the importance of preserving these relationships for future generations.

To further strengthen their partnership, Museveni announced that NRM would send a team to UDA headquarters for benchmarking and to establish closer cooperation between the two ruling parties.

“He said NRM will also be sending a team to UDA headquarters for benchmarking and building ties and cooperation between the two ruling parties,” the statement added.

UDA in Uganda

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, a delegation from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) travelled to meet with officials from Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In an official statement, UDA disclosed that the team would be based in Kampala for an entire week, focusing on discussions of mutual interest.

“UDA Party Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar is leading a high-level party delegation for a consultative meeting with Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM),” read part of UDA’s statement.

“The UDA team will engage their NRM counterparts in discussions of mutual interest to both parties and the friendly nations throughout their week in Kampala,” it added.
