UDA interviews Ruto’s competitors for presidential ticket

Competitors of Deputy President William Ruto for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential ticket have been interviewed at Hustler’s Plaza ahead of March 15 National Delegates Conference (NDC).

Tracy Wanjiru and Jephanei Orina were invited for the interview on Thursday, March 10 alongside the DP.

Orina, during the interview, promised to focus on women and youth empowerment.

“Women have proven that they are better financial managers than men. If you give a woman money, there is less chance that that money will end up in some nightclub in Kilimani,” he told the interviewing panel.

On her part, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina thanked Orina for showing interest in the party’s presidential ticket.

“Thank you for your confidence in UDA. We value youthful leadership and we don’t discriminate against anyone,” she said.

On Thursday, March 10, the party invited the three candidates who had applied for the position.

“We are in receipt of your application to be nominated as a Presidential candidate under the UDA political party. Consequently, we write you for verification of your documents and interview to determine your eligibility,” Maina said in a statement.

All the candidates were asked to carry with themselves; National Identity cards, coloured passport size photographs, proof of payment of nomination fees, original copies of academic certificates and updated resumes.

It had also emerged that Orina requested the party to waive his nomination fee and Maina said that they will discuss the matter during the interview.
