Two lined up to testify in Sharon, 26, murder case

Two key witnesses in the murder of 26-year-old Sharon Otieno and her unborn child are expected to testify on December 2 and 3.
The two, who are under the witness protection programme, will testify in a case in which Migori Governor Zacharia Okoth Obado, his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and Casper Obiero, a clerk in the county are charged with the murder of the two.
A pretrial conference was conducted yesterday by Justice Jessie Lesiit and all parties agreed on the hearing dates. Defence lawyers are opposed to victims’ lawyers cross examining the witnesses, claiming that the latter are not allowed in law to do so as they are ‘watching brief’ for the victims.
Justice Jessie Lesiit directed the defence to file a formal application and submit it on November 11 before the trial court.
The three accused have since denied killing the Rongo University student and her unborn baby on the night of September 3 and 4 last year, at Owade in Rachuonyo Sub-county, Homa Bay county.
Obado was released on a cash bail of Sh5 million and two sureties of Sh5 million each. Obiero and Oyamo were released on Sh1 million bail each or an alternative bond of Sh2 million each by the Court of Appeal.
Thirty witnesses are expected to testify in the matter.
