Two candidates eyeing the presidency in the August general election have declared interest to battle it out with Deputy President William Ruto for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

UDA’s Secretary-General Veronica Maina has, in a statement dated Thursday, March 10, invited the duo; Tracy Wanjiru and Jephanei Orina, alongside the Deputy President himself to the party’s headquarters for interviews set for Saturday, March 12.

After the interviews, the party officials will pick a flagbearer for the upcoming election.

“We are in receipt of your application to be nominated as a Presidential candidate under the UDA political party. Consequently, we write you for verification of your documents and interview to determine your eligibility,” the letters sent to the three candidates read in part.

The letters further revealed that the meeting will kick off at 8:00 am at the Hustlers Plaza.

All the candidates were asked to carry with themselves; National Identity cards, coloured passport size photographs, proof of payment of nomination fees, original copies of academic certificates and updated resumes.

It has also emerged that Orina requested the party to waiver his nomination fee and Maina said that they will discuss the matter during the interview.

Notably, UDA will conduct its National Delegates Convention (NDC) on March 15.
