Tributes pour in for ex-Leopards boss Magelo
Fallen former AFC Leopards chair Alex ole Magelo has been eulogised as an iconic football administrator.
Current Leopards chair Dan Shikanda said he had learned of Magelo’s death with profound shock, adding that the deceased’s input when he spearheaded the club was there for all to see.
“He had a singular sense of duty to Ingwe. He was an affable character and a workaholic to a fault.
I send my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Shikanda.
Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa said the beautiful game had lost a dedicated servant of the game.
“During his time at the club, Leopards experienced positive growth and arguably their best position in a decade.
His contribution to the game cannot be underestimated. We wish his family solace during these trying times.”
Former FKF president Sam Nyamweya described the late Magelo, who died in Nairobi at the weekend, as a leader worthy of veneration and whose contribution in the country’s football governance was discernible.
“It is great sorrow and sadness that I have learned of the passing of my brother and friend Magelo.
The cruel hand of death has robbed the family of a loving, humble and caring father, husband, brother, uncle and pillar,’’ said Nyamweya.
“I have personally lost not just a dear brother, but a loyal, dependable and honest friend and comrade with whom I worked very closely in the administration and development of football and diverse spheres in the country and region,’’ said Nyamweya,
Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku also sent his condolences, saying death has robbed the country off an astute politician.
“Death has robbed us of a brave and dependable man, philanthropist, football administrator, politician, and a dedicated public servant whose wit in matters of society enabled him to rub shoulders with the high and mighty in this country.
I wish his family, the people of Kajiado and Narok and Kenyans at large God’s strength to overcome the grief,” said Lenku.
