Paris Olympics 2024

After Beatrice Chebet scooped a gold medal for Team Kenya in the Women’s 10,000m final on Friday, August 9, 2024, marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge will be in action today from 9:00 am, in search of another medal for the country, an event that will be among the top news events of the day.

Kipchoge will run alongside Benson Kipruto and Alexander Mutiso Munyao.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi will later on compete in the men’s 800m final scheduled for today at 8:15 pm.

Kenya’s Edwin Kurgat will also be in action in the men’s 5000m final scheduled for today at 8:50 pm.

Faith Kipyegon will also be eyeing for a gold medal in the Women’s 1500m final scheduled for today at 9:15 pm.

Power blackout

Kenya Power has listed areas in three counties that will experience power interruption on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

The utility company says the areas fall within Nairobi, Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties.

The power interruptions will occur at diverse times of the day from 9 am to 5 pm.

The interruptions are scheduled to allow time for system maintenance, Kenya Power said in a notice Friday evening.

Installations in Nairobi that will experience power interruptions lie along Mombasa Road. Select areas in Uasin Gishu will also experience power interruption from 10 am to 5 pm.

In Bungoma County, power will be out from 9 am to 2 pm in Site and Service East, Webuye Town, Law Courts, Webuye Hospital, Nabuyole Boosters, Webuye police, National East, Pan Paper and Kwa Dinah.

Reactions to ODM leadership changes

More reactions are expected after the Central Management Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Friday, August 9, 2024, picked new officials of the party.

The party’s highest decision-making body unveiled the new leadership lineup to fill vacant positions following the appointment to Cabinet of Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya and John Mbadi.

The party settled on governors Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi as the new deputy party leaders.

The Central Management Committee also said it had settled on Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga to replace Mbadi as the national chairman.

The party also retained Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as secretary general and the party spokesperson.

The Orange Party leader Raila Odinga has since congratulated the new officials.
