Reactions to Ruto’s Cabinet

More reactions to the changes made by President William Ruto to the list of his Cabinet nominees sent to Parliament for approval, are expected to dominate the headlines throughout the day.

In the latest changes, Aden Duale Bare has been reassigned and moved from the Ministry of Defence to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

Soipan Tuya who served in the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Defence.

The swap of roles was revealed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, when the Parliament sessions resumed.

Kenya Power outage

A planned power outage scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, 2024, is set to affect 10 counties across Kenya, as per the latest announcement from Kenya Power.

The outage, intended for maintenance, will disrupt multiple regions, each experiencing temporary power cuts at different times throughout the day.

“Notice is hereby given under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules that the electricity supply will be interrupted as follows: (Periodic interruptions are necessary to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of power lines, connect new customers, or replace power lines during construction, etc.),” stated Kenya Power on its official website.

Although temporary, this outage is expected to significantly impact various sectors and activities in the affected counties.

ODM cracks

In the wake of reports that President William Ruto has offered Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga five Cabinet slots, despite disagreements within the opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition, Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has openly contradicted a statement earlier issued by party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Sifuna, in a statement released on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, said the party is not negotiating for any coalition agreement or lobbying for appointments with President Ruto’s government.

MP Kaluma however, speaking in the National Assembly later in the afternoon, confirmed a perceived agreement between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza government to absolve some of the party members into the remaining Cabinet positions.

He disclosed that Raila is indeed supposed to be sending President Ruto a list of candidates to be considered for Cabinet Secretary positions in the course of the week.
