Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Mudavadi in Algiers
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign & Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is in Algiers, Algeria, to participate in the Senior Official’s Segment of the 11th Ministerial-Level Meeting of the Africa Union Committee of Ten (C-10) of Heads of State and Government on the Reform of the UN Security Council.
The session, which began on Sunday, will continue on Monday with a review of the implementation of the Oyalla Plan of Action. This plan, adopted in November 2023 in Equatorial Guinea, is based on the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.
The Ministerial Meeting will adopt recommendations on the way forward.
Tree planting
Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza will lead Ministry staff and the community in a tree planting exercise at Port Victoria Forest Station in Busia County.
This initiative follows a similar exercise conducted by the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs staff at Kangaita Forest in Kirinyaga County last Monday.
A fortnight ago, a comparable activity was led by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports Kenya, with Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba at the helm, alongside Ministry staff, agencies, and the local community.
Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya also participated in a recent tree-growing exercise, joining forces with the sports fraternity.
These weekly tree-planting activities are part of the ambitious 15 Billion National Tree Growing Programme, which aims to significantly increase Kenya’s forest cover.
Junior Starlets
The Junior Starlets will return home on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 1:10 pm, following a historic 3-0 victory against Burundi in their FIFA U17 World Cup Qualifier match.
The game, played on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Ethiopia, saw the Junior Starlets display a strong sense of purpose from the first whistle.
Lorna Faith broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, giving the team an early lead. Marion Serenge doubled Kenya’s lead in the 43rd minute, providing a comfortable cushion heading into halftime.
In the second half, Susan Akoth added a third goal in the 71st minute, effectively sealing a crucial away victory. This win puts the team in a strong position ahead of the second leg, set for Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Ulinzi Sports Complex.
Harambee Stars World Cup Qualifiers
The Harambee Stars are set for their final preparation session ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers match against Ivory Coast.
Ivory Coast have arrived in Malawi and is ready to face the Stars on Tuesday, June 11, at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Harambee Stars will be looking to bounce back after their tightly contested World Cup Qualifiers match against Burundi in Lilongwe ended in a 1-1 draw. Duke Abuya scored for Kenya, but Burundi’s Abdallah Sudi equalized in the final minutes.
