October 19, 2024: Top news events to look out for today
Here is what you need to know to get up to speed with today’s happenings.
Full in-tray at Judiciary
Chief Justice Martha Koome will have a litany of urgent court orders to dispense following the rulings of at least three judges in different courts concerning the impeachment and approval of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to replace Rigathi Gachagua.
In the first ruling, Justice Chacha Mwita, on Friday, October 18, 2024, granted stay orders to Gachagua’s counsels, who had petitioned that the state was in a hurry to fill their client’s position despite his hospitalisation and inability to defend himself.
The matter was referred to CJ Martha Koome to form at least a three-judge bench to hear and determine by Thursday, October 24, 2024.
Other court orders were granted at the Kerugoya and the Milimani Law Courts suspending the assumption of the office of the deputy president.
Glen Washington concert
Reggae artiste Glen Washington will be performing live at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) today, Saturday, October 19, 2024.
The reggae maestro popularly known for his jams including Strangers in the Night, One of These Days, Oh Jah and If Loving You Is Wrong will take the stage to thrill his fans after being in the country for weeks.

Weekend football action
Today’s football action will begin with a London derby pitting Tottenham and Westham in an early kick-off match at 2:30 pm. Other matches to be played later at 5:00 pm are Manchester United vs Brentford, Fulham vs Aston Villa and Newcastle vs Brighton among others. Bournemouth will play against Arsenal at 7:30 pm.
Also, the FKF Premier League will be live with City Stars welcoming Sofapaka at 1:00 pm, Bandari vs Murang’a SEAL at 2:00 pm, KCB vs Kakamega Homeboyz and Mara Sugar vs Shabana at 3:00 pm
