Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Gachagua in Embu

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will be today, Sunday, October 13, 2024, in Embu County at a function that might likely feature among the day’s top news events.

DP Gachagua is scheduled to attend the 34th ACK Diocesan Anniversary at Kigari Teacher’s Training College, in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County.

Chicago Marathon

 Chicago Marathon will take place today Sunday, October 13, 2024.

Kenya’s Ruth Chepng’etich will contest, hoping to win a hattrick in a field where her Kenyan compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei and Ethiopia’s Sutume Kebede will feature.

The three enjoy sub-2:17 records and form part of a field that includes another six women to have dipped under 2:20.

Ethiopia’s Birhanu Legese leads the men’s field with the personal best of 2:02:48 he ran in Berlin in 2019. That performance puts him sixth on the men’s world marathon all-time list, but since then his highest marathon finish has been a third place, achieved in Rotterdam with a 2:05:16 run in April, according to World Athletics.

The two-time Tokyo Marathon champion will want to return to winning ways when he heads back to Chicago, where he placed 10th when making his World Marathon Majors debut in 2018, but he faces tough opposition.

Safari Sevens

It could be a Kenyan affair in the semifinals of the main cup at the Safari Sevens if Shujaa and the Morans triumph in their respective quarterfinal clashes today Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Machakos stadium.

After a successful completion of the group stages games, action heads into day three with the cup quarter-finals for the men`s category and the last pool games for the ladies’ category.

The day will kick off with Shogun Rugby taking on Uganda 2 for the first pool game for the ladies.

Costa Blanca Barbarians will take on Uganda Lady Cranes in match number two as hosts Kenya Lionesses and Kenya Cubs battle it out in the last pool game.

After completion of the ladies` pool games, the first men`s quarter-finals will feature Shogun Rugby taking on Kenya Varsity Select.

National seven`s circuit winners Kenya Harlequins will face off against Zimbabwe in the second quarter-finals.

Kenya Morans will face Lions Rugby as Shujaa battle it out with Uganda in the final quarterfinals game.
