Reactions to Rasna Warah’s death

Messages of condolences are expected to continue streaming in following the death of celebrated author and journalist Rasna Warah.

Warah passed away after a short illness, leaving behind a profound legacy of incisive writing and a commitment to social justice.

The news of her passing was on Saturday, January 11, confirmed by government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, who paid tribute to her contributions to journalism and literature.

“Fare thee well Rasna Warah, a great writer and journalist. Your book Missionaries, Mercenaries & Misfits is an eye-opener that secures your writing and thinking. Your column in the Daily Nation was always on point. R.I.P,” Mwaura wrote.

Politicians in churches

Today being the second Sunday of the year, politicians are expected to flock different churches across the country for praise and worship.

As per their norm, they are expected to take to the church podium to make various political remarks. Comments on the proper use of social media among the Kenyan youth are expected to come from politicians allied to the government.

FKF premier League

A couple of exciting Football Kenya Federation (FKF) fixtures are lined up today, Sunday, January 12, 2024.

Struggling Ulinzi Stars will face debutants Mara Sugar FC at Dandora Stadium in a televised encounter scheduled for 1:00 pm. The soldiers, led by Danstan Nyaudo, find themselves in unfamiliar territory, languishing in 15th place.

Mara Sugar, meanwhile, are enjoying an impressive debut campaign, sitting 10th despite a rough patch that saw them lose four of their last five matches.

Ulinzi will hope to build on their 2-1 win over Nairobi City Stars in their previous outing, while Mara will aim to bounce back and keep their mid-table momentum alive.

Elsewhere, Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County will host a double-header today. The opening match pits bottom-placed Posta Rangers against Nairobi City Stars. The mailmen, facing the threat of relegation, will be eager to kick off the year with a victory against a side they have beaten before.

The second fixture at the same venue features FC Talanta against Kakamega Homeboyz.

Both sides are enduring tough spells, with Talanta stuck in 16th place on 14 points, while Homeboyz, last season’s FKF Mozzart Cup winners, occupy 14th place with 16 points after four consecutive draws.
