‘You could have done worse in his situation’ – MP Mukunji castigates CS nominees criticizing Muturi
Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has castigated cabinet secretaries and politicians criticizing the Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi who has come out to condemn abductions in the country.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Mukunji, who was seen accompanying Muturi during his press conference, stated that leaders criticizing him had no experience of what he had gone through during his son’s abduction.
“On the matter of CS JB Muturi, I have these to say. The new CS nominees criticizing his sentiments have no idea the feeling if one became a victim. Some could have done worse in his situation knowing the government you serve is playing jokes with you with the double speak and pretentious replies from the responsible organs,” Mukunji observed.
Kabogo criticizes Muturi
During the vetting of cabinet secretary nominees at the National Assembly, ICT CS nominee William Kabogo stated that it was irresponsible for the former Attorney-General to call a press conference over the abduction of his son and others.
“From where I sit, that was very irresponsible from Hon. J B Muturi. If I were in his position, I would have taken my dissent to the appointing authority, and if I were afraid, I would go to the cabinet and air it there, and if not satisfied, I would have tendered my resignation because I don’t believe in what the government is doing,” Kabogo said on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Other leaders have equally called out Muturi over the remarks which have left Kenyans rife with speculation whether the CS is on his way out of the cabinet.
Osoro’s sentiments
On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro challenged Muturi to offer a public apology, resign or be removed from office following his statement on abduction.
The vocal MP blamed Muturi for publicly raising the abduction issue instead of addressing it directly with the president or in cabinet meetings.
The statement hot on the heels of Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi who has equally chided the public service CS over his decision to publicly prosecute the abduction of his son.
In an outburst, Sudi dared the former Attorney-General to resign, noting that he was dispensable and that replacements from his community were plenty.
“This desperate move, made now that your political career has waned, is a clear blackmail attempt. The timing is highly suspicious, revealing a coward man clutching at straws for political advantage,” Sudi charged.
