Good morning. This is what you need to know in order to get up to speed with the day’s happenings.

Ruto to grace Maa Cultural festival

President William Ruto is set to attend the Maa Cultural Festival at Sekenani Gate in the Maasai Mara.

During the opening of the four-day cultural festival on Monday, August 21, Governors Patrick Ole Ntutu (Narok), Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado), and Jonathan Leleliit (Samburu) asked that the Amboseli National Game Park be returned to the Kajiado County government from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

As Ruto graces the event, area residents will want to hear whether the President will grant the governor’s wishes over the game park.

The Head of State will also witness the annual wildebeest migration as a way of welcoming international visitors to visit Kenya.

Maa Culture Week is a four-day event that brings together communities from Narok, Kajiado, Laikipia, Marsabit, Baringo, and Samburu.

Dorcas Gachagua to attend HIV, Drug sensitisation meeting

Dorcas Gachagua will lead the sensitization meeting for religious leaders on prevention and treatment for HIV, drugs, alcohol, and substance abuse among men and boys.

The event will be held in Bomas, Kenya, on Tuesday.

Mrs Gachagua, together with her husband and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, have been at the forefront of fighting the abuse of substances, especially in the Mount Kenya counties.

‘Mathe wa Ngara’ to be arraigned in court

Suspected drug dealer Nancy Kigunzu, alias ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ is expected to be arraigned in court after she was arrested on Tuesday by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Kigunzu was arrested in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) after moving to court to seek orders to stop her arrest.

‘Mathe wa Ngara’ is suspected to be the mastermind of drug trafficking within Nairobi and the owner of the assorted narcotics nabbed last week with over Ksh12 million in cash.

Malkia Strikers face Nigeria in quarters

Ambitious national women’s volleyball side Malkia Strikers are set to face Nigeria in the ongoing CAVB African Nations Championship in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Kenya, who dropped only one set against Morocco, emerged at the top of their group with victories over Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Morocco, and Lesotho. 

Should they register a win over Nigeria, Malkia Strikers will face either Cameroon, who are the hosts, or Morocco in the semis.

World Bank, Trade Ministry launch SKIES application

The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, in partnership with the World Bank, is set to launch the call for applications for SKIES at the Entrepreneurship Center in Karen.

SKIES is a sub-component of the Kenyan industry and the entrepreneurship project whose role is to bridge the gap between startups and their transformation into thriving enterprises.

The launch will be led by Juma Mukhwana, who is the Principal Secretary at the State Department of Industry.
