Timbe opens goal- scoring account at Kobe with a brace

Harambee Stars’ offensive midfielder Ayub Timbe opened his goal-scoring account in Japan with a brace for his new club Vissel Kobe as he helped his side to a 3-0 win over Tokushima Vortis in a thrilling J1-League tie.

Timbe, 28, started the match at Pocarisweat Stadium and his side did not take long to break the deadlock, thanks to a  Hotaru Yamaguchi solo goal just two minutes into the match.

Timbe who is seeking to emulate compatriot Michel Olunga who emerged as the top scorer of the league last season, added the tally in the 52nd minute after good build up play and sealed their win in style later on in added time with his second of the match and Kobe’s third in the 93rd minute.

Prior to Wednesday night’s star performance by the former Reading player, Timbe had given an assist last weekend.

Kobe which also enjoys the services of Barcelona and Spanish legendary player Andre Iniesta and former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen, are now second in Group B of the domestic competition with eight points while FC Tokyo are top on 12 points, Oita Trinita are third with six points while Tokushima Vortis are last with five points.

Timbe and Kobe will now shift their focus on an away J1-League match against Urawa Reds tomorrow at Saitama Stadium.

Meanwhile in Greece, National team defender Aboud Omar helped FC Ionikos to earn promotion to the Greek Super League after being declared Champions of the country’s Super Two League following their 2-1 win over Ergotelis in their last game of the season on Wednesday night. 

Ionikos finished the season on 53 points after 27 games. Omar who managed the full minutes in the game saw his side go behind on the hour mark through Kokkinis after a goalless first half.

Ionikos however turned the game in their favour after Mumin restored parity in the 74th minute before Manalis confirmed their promotion with a goal nine minutes from time.

In Serbia, Kenya U20 star, Richard Odada of Red Star Belgrade will now officially be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season after his side was crowned the champions of the Serbian Super Lig on Wednesday night.

Dejan Stanković’s team won 35 matches, drew three matches and lost none with the team scoring a whopping 114 goals while conceding just 20 in the process.
