Thursday blackout to affect parts of 9 counties

Kenya Power has announced a planned power outage expected to affect parts of nine counties across the country on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
In an announcement released on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the utility company said the temporary blackout is necessary to allow for routine maintenance on its power network.
In Uasin Gishu County, the blackout will affect areas such as Burnt Forest, Kitingia, Cherus, Ndungulu, Kaptega, Kapsundei, Sengalo, Chereber, Kapchorwa, Ndanai, Ngarua, Kondoo, Kapkeno, Languse, Kaptega Cheboror and surrounding regions. The outage is expected to start at 9:00 am and end at 5:00 pm. Belkenya and nearby areas will also experience a similar outage during the same hours.
In Kisumu County, residents in Katito, including Kashelach and Kimbimbir, will be without electricity from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Milimani area, which includes Mega City, Sewage Oxidation, Gater Automation and Lions Total Energies, will also be affected within the same timeframe. Muhoroni and its surroundings such as the Agrochemical Industry, Homaline Market, Awasi, Tamu and Chemili, will experience the outage from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm.
In Siaya County, areas around Rabongo and Umala Market will go without power from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected places include Rabango Market, Mur Malanga Dairy, Umala Market, Ulafu School and nearby regions.
Parts of Migori County in the South Nyanza Region will also be affected. These include Nyakweri Centre, Nyakwere Rice Millers, Wath Ong’er Centre, Wangelongo Market, Lwanda Magwar Centre, Ndhiwa Girls and Secondary School, Diruma Dispensary, Agenga Village and the surrounding areas. The outage in these areas will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In the Mt. Kenya Region, Nyeri County residents in the Milimani and Karicheni areas will experience a blackout from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some of the affected places include Milimani Primary School, Milimani Estate, Chaka Mastore, Kirinyaga Construction, Roben Aberdare Crusher, Kieni Technical and Lusoi Resort.

In Tharaka Nithi County, areas around Chogoria and Kirurumwe, including Chogoria Market, Chogoria Hospital, Kamara, Meru Dairy Kirurumwe and Neo will be without electricity from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
In the North Eastern Region, parts of Kiambu County, such as Bidco, YMCA, Broadways and BAT will also be affected. The blackout will affect institutions and companies such as Thika Technical, Mount Kenya University, General Kago Morgue, Mundia Estate, Kenol Petrol Station, Toyota Kenya, Medisel, Dune Packaging, Mjengo Limited, Munene Industries, Bhucho, Nampark, Kenya Paper Sintel, Mama Millers, Slaughter, Vine Park and surrounding customers. The outage will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In the Coast Region, parts of Mombasa County will be hit by the blackout. Areas affected include Shanzu Garden Estate, Shanzu Water, Bamburi Airstrip, Shanzu Bush, Jolarabi, Zawadi Apartments, Braeburn School, JCC, Bamburi Staff Quarters, Enduro, Pollmans, Haller Park, Nyali Centre, Shiva Traders, KRA School and Estate, NITA, Palm Garden Estate, Nyali Shree Enclave Estate, Sunset Paradise, Bohora Apartments, Bella Plaza, Bombolulu Estate, Kwa Bullo Estate, Mwatamba Police Station, Mwembeni Stage, Vescon One and Two, Baraka Estate and nearby areas. Power supply in these areas will be interrupted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In Kitui County, a wide area is expected to be affected by the blackout. Some of the places listed include Kabati, Kwa Mutonga, Kauwi Dispensary, Musengo, Matinyani, Kauma, Unyaa, Mulutu, Ithiani, Tiva, Kakuuni, Katulani, Kwa Muli, Maliku, Kavisuni, Kanyangi, Kanyongonyo, Ilengi, Kyamathiaka, Kwa Vonza, Kyusiani, Kauwongo, Kwa Kilui, Muselele, Syomakanda, Nthongoni Airtel, Kavumbu, Kunda Kindu, Wikililye, Mulango, Nzambani, Nzangathi, Miambani, Zombe, Kisasi, Mbitini, Mosa, Ikanga, Voo, Kinakoni, Kitui Teachers SACCO, Oil Libya Kitui, Kobil Kitui, KIE.
Slaughter House Kitui, Kiembeni, Kalundu, Ngiini, Mutune, St Angelus Secondary School, Kwa Gindu, Kwa Nzao Primary School, Museve, Kwa Mutheke, Kwa Ukungu, Kyalilini, Kitui Central Business District, Kitui General Hospital, JICA, KEFRI, Kwa Ngindu, Kitui Prison, Kitui Police Station, Total Petrol Station, Law Courts, County Assembly, Governor’s Office, Nzeu, County Commissioner’s Office, Muslim Secondary School, Kitui High School, Majengo, Showground, Ithokwe, Kalawa, Nguni, Mathuki, Kalitini, Miambani, Ngaie, Masavi, Kiwanza, Kasteni, Ukasi, Ngomeni, Kalwa, Mulinde, Zikani, Yatwa, Nuu, Mutitu, Endau, Kaliku, Kitulani, Malalani, Nyaani, Kavuti Ikuuni, Waita, Kamuongo, Gaai, Kanduiwa, Kyuso, Katse, Kimangao, Ciampiu, Kora, Mivukoni, Tseikuru, Kaningo, Usueni, Kamisiliu, Mikauni, Ngungani Markets, Kiambere Water Supply, Wikithuki and surrounding customers. The blackout is expected to last from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
