Thursday blackout to affect parts of 7 counties – Kenya Power
By Kiprono Keileb, September 17, 2025Kenya Power has announced a planned nationwide power interruption on Thursday, September 18, that will affect parts of seven counties across different regions.
In a public notice issued on its official X account on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the company said the interruptions are part of ongoing network maintenance and will run for several hours in selected areas. Customers in Nairobi, Nyeri, Meru, and West Pokot are among those expected to experience outages lasting between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
In the Nairobi region, the utility said sections of Westlands and Lavington will be without electricity for most of the day.
“Muthithi Rd, Part of Mpaka Rd, Mogotio Rd, Aga Khan Medical Centre, Heyatt Regency, Chiromo Lane & adjacent customers” in Westlands will be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In Lavington, Kenya Power listed a wide network of roads and estates expected to be hit by the blackout. “Part of Olenguruone Rd, Mageta Rd, Mugumo Rd, Ndoto Rd, Isaac Gathanju Rd, Lavington Centre, Naurid Merali Rd, Majimazuri, Part of Muhoya Ave, Jacaranda Ave, Muthangari Rd, Part of Gitanga Rd, Part of Mbaazi Ave, Msanduku Lane, Part of Othaya Rd, Kolloh Rd, Valley Arcade, Braeside Gardens & adjacent customers,” the notice read.
The North Rift region will also be affected, with parts of West Pokot scheduled for a full-day outage. Kenya Power said the blackout will affect institutions, farms, and dispensaries in Murkwijit and Aduruokit. “Tartar, Murkwijit, Kaplelach Koror, Tartar Girls, Kangilikwam, Keringet, Cheptiya, Kadogony Dispensary, Kaptarin, Aduruokit Girls & adjacent customers” will have no supply between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In the Mt. Kenya region, the company noted that parts of Nyeri and Meru counties will be affected. In Nyeri, the area around Kagongo has been earmarked. “Kagongo, Part of Kahuria, Mathari ATC Booster & adjacent customers” will face outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Meru will see a larger coverage area, touching on markets, farms, and learning institutions. “Ntugi Mkt, Kibiriachia Mkt, Ntirimiti Base Stn, Murumgwe Mkt, Murinya Mkt Kangumbii, Rubiri, Nasiri, Kimbo Mkt, Marania, VOK, Korong, Kathanje, Kaburibru, Kongoni Farm, AA Growers, Embori Farm, Kisima Farm, Uhuru Flowers, PJ Dave, Kikwetu Flowers, Kisima Sec, Timaflow, School of Adventure, Bloomingdale, Edenbrooks & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power said.
