Vihiga teenager dies while ‘demonstrating’ how to commit suicide
Villagers at Keyonzo village in Vihiga were shocked after a 14-year-old boy died while allegedly attempting to ‘teach’ his peers how to commit suicide.
Reportedly, the deceased was with his friends when he took a rope ready to demonstrate to his friends how successful suicide missions are done when the rope accidentally strangled him to death.
Confirming the incident, the Assistant Chief Esther Vidijah said the incident has left the village and the family in pain wondering what led the young boy to attempt such a thing.
The chief said efforts by his friends to rescue him were futile as the rope quickly tightened around his neck.
“We have reported an incident where a 14-year-old boy lost his life after he tried to demonstrate to his friends how people commit suicide.
Unfortunately, the boy hanged himself in the process of the demonstrations,” said Vidijah.
Vidija said the body of the deceased was taken to Vihiga Referral Hospital mortuary as police launch investigations.
The administrator cautioned parents and guardians to monitor their children especially during this difficult time when they are at home as schools remain closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A similar incident was also reported in Shiru in Hamisi Sub-County where a 20-year-old man was found hanging from the roof of their house.
It is alleged that the young man looked stressed and disturbed before committing suicide.
In another incident police in Mawe Tatu village in Lugari in Kakamega County are investigating an incident where a 14-year- old boy committed suicide at their home.
