Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has, on Friday, May 29, 2026, convened a security meeting with Emuhaya residents after criminals killed another Boda Boda operator, heightening fear in the sub-county.

The latest victim, Jackson Ondula from Emasatsi village, Kisa East location in Khwisero Sub-county, Kakamega County, was attacked on the Esibuye-Emusutswi road near St Bakhita’s Girls’ School on Thursday night.

According to witnesses, Ondula was carrying a female passenger when they were ambushed. The woman escaped with injuries.

Police say the attackers targeted Ondula for his motorbike, inflicting deep cuts before fleeing with it.

His body was moved to the Vihiga Referral Hospital mortuary in Mbale by the police.

Confirming the incident, Emuhondo Senior Assistant Chief Norman Abunabi said he received reports that an identified man had been killed by criminals.

“I was informed by a resident that someone had been attacked and killed, and the body was left at the roadside. Police were informed and have taken up the matter,” said Abunabi.

Ondula’s murder comes just days after criminals killed Elias Okubasu at Ebuyangu in West Bunyore, Emuhaya Sub-county.

Okubasu was also attacked and his motorbike was stolen before he succumbed to injuries.

The back-to-back killings have left boda boda operators and residents injured, traumatised and living in fear.

Abunabi has urged riders in the area to be vigilant over what he termed “marauding criminals”.

Senator Osotsi visited Ebuyangu following the disturbing security incidents.

He met the family of the late Okubasu, who narrated painful accounts of the violent attacks that led to the loss of his motorbike and his life.

“The level of fear and vulnerability I witnessed in the community is deeply concerning and reflects an unacceptable breakdown in safety that must be urgently addressed,” Osotsi said.

Security agencies

The senator called upon security agencies to intensify patrols, strengthen intelligence operations and act swiftly to apprehend those responsible. He urged a proactive approach to restoring order.

“I will escalate their concerns to the relevant authorities as we work collectively to restore peace, dignity and security in the area,” Osotsi added.

Residents told the senator that criminals are exploiting poorly lit roads and footpaths, attacking riders during late hours.

They demanded intensified police patrols and lighting along the hotspots’ routes.

Investigation

The Emuhaya Sub-county Police Commander said investigations into both murders are ongoing and appealed for public information to track the gangs stealing motorbikes.
