Taalam on fire for Rangers in win over Strath

By , November 24, 2019

Kelvin Taalam was unstoppable as Rangers Handball Club subjected title hopefuls Strathmore University to their first loss this season in the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men’s league in a 27-23 outcome.

Taalam scored 10 goals against Strathmore to help Rangers keep a perfect run over the weekend in their four fixtures.

With their match against Strathmore touted as the toughest of the four,  the Gerald Juma coached Rangers recovered from a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) scare to hold their own against Peter Mwathi’s Strathmore.

Rangers had beaten JKUAT by one goal in a 23-22 outcome before facing Mwathi’s charges.

The eagerly awaited encounter lived up to its billing as the teams were tied at 12 goals. Rangers, however,  pulled away in the second half for a five-goal win.

“It was not our day and by far not our weekend. We tried our level best especially in the second half but things were not working.  Rangers were easily breaking our defence and white on offence we wasted many chances shooting off target.

“We regrouped for a 31-28 win against the University of Eldoret but by our standards that is still a poor performance.

We have agreed as a team to work on the weak areas exposed this weekend.  We hope to come back at the level we know we are capable of delivering at,” said Strathmore coach Mwathi.

Strathmore’s Simon Mutuku and Maxwell Munene scored six and five goals, respectively in the loss.
