Sudan applauds UN for rejecting Al-Dagalo’s parallel govt
The Government of Sudan has welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s strong stance against the declaration by the Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo-led Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to form a parallel government.
In a statement dated Wednesday, August 13, 2025, that was shared by the Embassy of Sudan in Nairobi on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation hailed the Security Council for recognising the RSF militia’s move as an unlawful threat to the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Council has reaffirmed its commitment to Sudan’s independence and stability while warning of the regional risks posed by the RSF militia’s actions and alliances.
“The Government of the Sudan strongly welcomes the press statement issued today, 13 August 2025, by the United Nations Security Council, which categorically rejected the declaration by the terrorist Al-Dagalo militia for forming the so-called “parallel government” in Sudan,” Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in the statement.
“The Council rightly recognised this unlawful move as a direct threat to the unity and territorial integrity of the Sudanese State and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and stability. The statement further warned against the consequences of the RSF militia’s actions and its political alliance, which imperil not only the future of Sudan but also the peace and security of the wider region.”
RSF siege
The UN body recalled Resolution 2736 (2024), which demanded that the RSF lift the siege on El-Fasher, end hostilities, and allow unhindered humanitarian access.
It also voiced concern over continued attacks on aid operations and urged full compliance with international humanitarian law.
Sudan noted that the Council’s position aligns with earlier condemnations from regional bodies, the UN Secretary-General, and allied nations.
Sudan’s commitment
The Sudanese government also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and pledged constructive engagement with the international community to protect the interests of the Sudanese people.
“The Security Council recalled its Resolution 2736 (2024), which demanded that the RSF militia immediately lift the siege on El-Fasher, halt all hostilities, and allow the free and unhindered access of humanitarian aid. It also expressed deep concern over continued attacks on humanitarian operations by the terrorist group and urged full compliance with international humanitarian law and the fundamental principles of humanitarian action,” the statement read.
“The Government of Sudan appreciates the clarity and firmness of the Security Council’s message and notes with satisfaction that it aligns with similar strong positions taken previously by regional and international organisations, the United Nations Secretary-General, friendly nations, and other partners, which reflect the international consensus in rejecting the Al-Dagalo militia and its political alliance.”
