Striking University of Nairobi students vow to paralyse CBD
UON students have vowed to shut down activities within the Nairobi Central Business District as of Thursday, September 4, 2025, while demanding the release of their results.
Speaking on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, while engaging police in running battles along the University Way, the students decried that the delays had disrupted their academic calendar and progression.
Led by Emmanuel Keboi Oribo, Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) Faculty of Health Sciences, also cited challenges in graduating on time and facilitating accommodation at the students’ half of residence.
“We are here today to demonstrate peacefully because we don’t have our results for the exams that we sat in April. Graduation is in two weeks’ time, and there are no results, and we also cannot apply for accommodation,” he stated.
Stay away from CBD
The students also sounded a warning to motorists to abstain from the CBD as they continue their demonstration into the week.
“The direction is one. There will be no activity going on at UON until our results are released. If you are a vehicle owner in Nairobi, do not come to CDB tomorrow or on Friday or this week until we get our results in our portal. There is no law saying we should not get our results whether people have been paid or not,” the UoN medical president added.

The new strike comes weeks after the tension flared on August 26, 2025, as a similar protest was organised by the students at the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The medical students then demanded the immediate release of their exam results, citing delays similar to those of today.
Mohammed Farah, the Secretary General of the Faculty of Health Sciences, decried the delays of their results despite assurances from administration that the results would have been released in July.
“Our results have been delayed for almost two months now. On July 15, the DVC of academic affairs announced that the results would be released in the month itself and the supplementary exams would also be taken,” he stated.
“Today we have not had them released. For medics, we need them to progress to the next academic year. Our comrades are anxious and frustrated, and we believe this is cruel. We decided to shut down the whole faculty and close down the university,” he threatened.
The next cohort of university students is set to graduate on September 19, 2025, at the Chancellor’s Court.
