Speaker Wetang’ula pens an emotional message mourning his elder brother’s death
National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has penned a heartfelt tribute to his deceased brother James Mukhwana following his demise on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
In a statement on his X page, Wetang’ula expressed his deep sorrow for the passing of a brother he described as a man who touched the lives of many during his life in public service as a teacher and disciplinarian.
Touched lives
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my dear elder brother, James Mukhwana Wetang’ula. A retired teacher of great humility, discipline, and wisdom, James touched many lives,” part of his tribute stated.

The speaker also lauded James’ devotion to the family unit and the larger community.
“James was a devoted father, mentor, and pillar in our community. His legacy as an educator and family man remains firmly in our hearts,” he added.
Wetang’ula parted his tribute by asking for support for his larger family during the trying times of personal tragedy.
“We kindly ask for your prayers and support as we mourn his passing and honour his life. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
News of James’ demise
His condolences message follows the confirmation of Mukhwana’s demise by his brother and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi.
Through his Facebook page on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Wanyonyi hailed James as a courageous warrior and mentor.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my elder brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula,” Tim’s statement read in part.
James was the firstborn son of Mzee Dominic Khaemba Wetang’ula and the late Mama Anna Wetang’ula. He was also a twin brother of Virginia Mulongo Sikhoya and a loving brother to Dorothy Watila, Mary Ongamo, Scolastica Opemo, Tim Wanyonyi, Fred Wetang’ula, and Moses.

Among those who have mourned the deceased is Trade and Investment PS Juma Mukhwana. Busia County Woman representative Catherine Omanyo, and Bungoma politician Zachariah Barasa, among others
