Sossion wants govt to implement 32 billion CBA, accuses TSC of undermining KNUT
The embattled KNUT boss Wilson Sossion has called on the Treasury to implement the Salary and Remunerations Commission (SRC) recommendations urging it to release Ksh 32 billion Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) funds.
Speaking in Kitale during a meeting called to elect regional officials of the union, Sossion told the government to end its habit of disrespecting the CBA and court orders on matters affecting the teachers’ union.
“This culture of promoting impunity must come to an end. The government must desist from the habit of disrespecting court orders and bargaining agreements,” Sossion stated.
He accused the government of stifling the union which has led to many teachers deserting the union.
Sossion also accused TSC boss Nancy Macharia of undermining the union and going against the constitution.
“It is through Ms. Macharia that we are witnessing antagonism against the teachers’ union. Continuous disregard to the constitution is tantamount to constitutional mutilation and it must stop forthwith,” he said.
He also added that the union will not undertake a virtual national delegates conference but is preparing for a well-coordinated national election guided by Covid-19 protocols.
