Sonko has suspended over 50 county officials in two years
Nairobi County officials have been the victims of Governor Mike Sonko’s unorthodox style of leadership at the City Hall.
From intimidating his antagonists to leaking phone conversations, Sonko’s erratic governance has brought him to the limelight and subjected him to open opposition from ward representatives.
Since Sonko took over the county, he has suspended over 56 officials, including his Cabinet members.
On April 21, 2018, Sonko suspended 30 senior county officials from the procurement department over alleged misappropriation of funds.
Before the April suspensions, the governor had suspended his Finance minister Danvas Makori.
Barely three months after suspending the 30 officials, Sonko again suspended six other officials over corruption.
“I have this morning suspended several Nairobi County officials among them, Chief of Staff Brian Mugo, acting Chief Officer of Finance Ekaya Alumasi over misuse of public funds, pending investigations,” read Sonko’s statement on July 30, 2018.
Hardly had two months ended when Sonko announced suspension of four other officials.

The suspension of the four was occasioned by the discovery of 12 infant bodies hidden at Pumwani Hospital.
After the Precious Talent School tragedy that claimed 8 lives, Sonko again suspended 16 county officials, including his right-hand man, Charles Kerich.
Kerich was at that time the Finance and Economic Planning minister.
