A sombre mood engulfed Eldoret Hospital on Tuesday as family members, relatives, and friends of former Likuyani Member of Parliament Enoch Kibunguchy gathered to view his body following his death.

Speaking to journalists at the hospital, the late MP’s brother, Johnstone Alubengo, said the family was shocked by his sudden demise, noting that he had only been unwell for a few days.

According to him, Kibunguchy had complained of food poisoning, an illness the family did not expect would result in death.

“He was admitted with food poisoning, which we did not think posed a serious threat to his life,” Johnstone said.

However, his nephew, Kelly Walubengo, a politician, explained that the condition worsened unexpectedly. He said doctors informed the family that the food poisoning became severe and spread to other organs.

“The doctors told us the infection affected other organs, leading to kidney failure and later breathing complications, which caused his death yesterday evening,” Walubengo stated.

Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa said the late Kibuchy had expressed interest in making a political comeback.

According to Wamalwa, the former MP had approached the party seeking a ticket to contest the Likuyani parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.

“He was ready to re-enter politics and serve the people of Likuyani once again,” Wamalwa said.

Wamalwa further revealed that the family has requested an independent pathologist to conduct a private post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Kibunguchy’s death comes barely weeks after the passing of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, who had also announced plans to return to active politics, marking another loss in Kenya’s political scene.
