The family of the slain Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) Purity Wangechi has urged investigative agencies to move with speed to establish the circumstances leading to her death.

Speaking during a vigil at the institution yesterday, friends and relatives said they were yet to come to terms with their daughter’s death.

“We are only getting information from the media. Until today it remains unclear what led to the demise of our lovely daughter. We are so sad and I can only say that justice must prevail. We will not sleep until it prevails,” said Fabian Karinga, a cousin to the deceased.

“We just want to understand what led to this untimely demise. As a family we were looking forward towards attending her graduation ceremony not attending her burial,” said Karinga.

Elizabeth Wanjiru, a cousin, described Wangechi as a jovial person who united the family.

“She introduced me to TikTok and I still have memories of the particular day when we downloaded the app and she helped me in loading my details. Wangechi will forever remain in my heart. She had ambitions of becoming a famous person and as family we are just appealing for justice to be served,” said Wanjiru.

On their part, lecturers described Wangechi as a hardworking student who had great ambitions in the broadcast profession.

“We have lost a great student who was always putting all her efforts in bettering her chances of being the best broadcaster in the future. The investigative agencies have started their work and we are telling them to move with speed,” said the institute’s director Hiram Mucheke.

Fellow students also urged investigative agencies to move with speed and bring to book all the culprits.
