Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi brigade heads to Machakos as political temperatures rise
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 20, 2026The Linda Mwananchi movement has announced that it will hold a political rally in Machakos Town, which is Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s stronghold, on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
The event was confirmed on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, through a statement shared by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
“Tunafungia mwezi pale Masaku…” Sifuna said

This comes at a time when the Sifuna-led movement has been traversing the country in a bid to popularise its agenda and aim to outdo its rivals in the Linda Ground, both in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

The last rally held by the Sifuna-led team was in Kisumu City, which saw them pull a sea of humanity. The rally had been triggered by an attack on their fellow team member, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who was injured at a popular restaurant in the area.
In response, they chose to hold a rally in the area to dismiss any accusations linking the attack to a clash between Nyanza and Western communities, as had earlier been peddled.
Linda Mwananchi’s popularity
The Linda Mwananchi movement has been viewed as one of the strong contenders in the 2027 General Elections, with recent TIFA ratings placing the movement at 73 per cent popularity, compared to the Oburu Odinga-led Linda Ground, which had a rating of 23 per cent.
The Linda Mwananchi movement was thrown into the limelight and gained countrywide attention after the attempted ouster of Edwin Sifuna from his position as ODM Secretary General and his replacement by Busia Senator Catherine Omanyo. This saw the movement grow significantly, attracting a lot of attention, especially from the youth.
Wiper MPs back Sifuna

With the Ukambani region being largely regarded as a Wiper zone, several MPs from the Kalonzo Musyoka-led outfit have thrown their weight behind the Sifuna movement. Some of the most notable include Mavoko MP Patrick Mukau and Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu, who have been accompanying Edwin Sifuna on his countrywide tours.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, who has been outspoken and claims to be the founder of the movement, stated that he personally called Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka to allow his two MPs to join his movement.
Siaya Governor James Orengo has described the Linda Mwananchi movement as a tsunami that anyone standing in its way is swept away by.
