Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna on Sunday, August 25, 2024, revealed that he had held a dynamic and engaging session with Kenyans living in Houston, Texas in the United States of America (USA).

Taking to his official X account, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General said he spent five straight hours answering questions from the vibrant diaspora community.

Sifuna on diaspora’s commitment

Sifuna in his statement lauded the diaspora community for demonstrating a deep commitment to Kenya’s development and future.

The ODM lawmaker expressed his admiration for the passion and concern shown by the Kenyan diaspora.

“Kenyans hapa Houston don’t play. 5 straight hours fielding questions, yani maswali maswali. Diaspora folks care greatly for Kenya and want those of us back home to do our best for the Country,” Sifuna stated.

Sifuna on experience with diaspora

Despite the challenging nature of the discussion, Sifuna described the experience as wonderful and expressed his deep gratitude to the Houston community for their warm reception and active participation.

Sifuna further hinted at his next stop, indicating that he would be engaging with Kenyans in Seattle.

“All in all I had a wonderful time. Deeply grateful to all of you for having me. Kesho tuonane Seattle!” Sifuna wrote on X.

Sifuna’s US tour

Sifuna flew to the US to represent his ODM party at this years International Leaders Forum (ILF) in Chicago, Illinois.

In a statement shared via his official X account on Monday, August 12, 2024, Sifuna revealed that he had been invited to the event by National Democratic Institute (NDI).

The event took place on the sidelines of the Democratic Convention in Chicago from August 19, 2024, to August 22, 2024.

“Honored to be invited by National Democratic Institute to the 2024 International Leaders Forum happening on the sidelines of the Democratic Convention in Chicago from the 19th of August. I will be representing my party, ODM,” Sifuna stated.

Some of the event’s attendees include Heads of States, cabinet ministers, ambassadors, Members of Parliament and political party officials.

The International Leaders Forum is also used as an opportunity for leaders across diverse ideologies and geographies to build relationships based on their shared experiences.

The attendees also use the opportunity to identify common interests as they address pressing challenges to democratic institutions, values and norms
