Shollei hails Museveni after attending NRM conference in Uganda
By Kiprono Keileb, August 31, 2025National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei has hailed Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM), saying their 4th National Conference has strengthened the spirit of regional solidarity.
Sharing her reflections after attending the Kampala meeting, Shollei described the gathering as a “remarkable platform” that brought leaders and delegates together to reflect on Africa’s path to democracy.
“Honoured to have attended the 4th National Conference of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kampala, Uganda, this August. The conference was a remarkable platform that brought together leaders and delegates from across the region to reflect on Africa’s Journey of Democracy,” Shollei wrote on her X account on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
She congratulated President Museveni, the NRM leadership, and the newly elected Central Executive Committee members, noting in particular the victory of Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among.
“I congratulate President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the NRM leadership, and the newly elected Central Executive Committee members, particularly Speaker Hon. Anita Annet Among, on her resounding victory,” Shollei stated.
The Deputy Speaker emphasised that Kenya and Uganda share not just geographical borders but also political, social, and economic ties that must be nurtured to secure a prosperous future for both nations.
“As Kenya and Uganda continue to nurture strong parliamentary and bilateral ties, moments like these remind us of the importance of regional solidarity in building a prosperous future for our people,” she added.
In her closing remark, Shollei underscored the tension between democratic ideals and the ruling party’s long dominance in Uganda, with a sharp quip: “NRM and Democracy are like you and Integrity, they can’t exist in the same space.” She concluded
Her statement reflects both admiration for Uganda’s ruling party structure and a subtle call for deeper reflection on the meaning of democracy in Africa’s political journey.
The conference brought together senior Ugandan officials, regional leaders, and delegates, with Museveni reaffirming NRM’s role in shaping Uganda’s political direction.
