A Nairobi lawyer George Wajackoyah was yesterday disqualified by the High Court from representing the family of slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno in the murder case facing Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Justice Grace Ngenye said the lawyer had privileged information prior to Obado taking plea, which would be prejudicial to the trial.

She noted that Wajackoyah had on December 23 last year visited Obado at Gigiri police station where he took instructions as his lawyer.

But when Obado was charged on December 3, he did not represent him, and instead appeared for the family of the murder victims.

Ngenye said the lawyer had conflict of interest and that the information he held would be prejudicial to trial if he continued to appear for the victims in the case.

Obado had asked the court to disqualify Wajackoyah from the case saying he had privileged information from him and he was apprehensive the information may be shared with the prosecution in the course of the proceedings.
